some reluctance.

Hello friends
I still've some mental barriers regarding our demands & the peace march:
-What are our demands & most important what are its benefits.
-What if the govt directly refuses to accept our demands.
-For how long we r going to take our march.
-A short one will end up also peacefully.
-A movement like this would require a long fight & it will be very difficult to gather masses for a long span.
-Even if we manage to do so & take A longer route this will be a direct fight with the govt.
-This will pressurize the govt to Suppress the movement at any cost & they won't hesitate in treating us the same way as dogs are treated or as Baba Ramdev was dealt with.
-they may use cane, tear gas or worst randomly arrest any one and put any weird charges. & no one would like to have a police case against them.
-This probably may brake our strength.

I'm not trying to de-motivate this spirit but want to have a back-up plan.
What if a situation like this occurs, what would be our next step.

Can we start a SMS campaign.

Friends my reluctance suggested me of a method of movement in which everyone can participate. Where mass can contribute.
The idea actually came from a post from one of the forums which sugggested of starting a letter campaign against the govt.
I like the idea but isn't possible as who would take the pain of writing.
Hence a SMS may be perfect. It just has to be typed once and keep on forwarding to every one we know as well as to news channels. Every one would just need to add their name to it and forward.
Contents of the sms can be anythig like:
- Mr P.M. a true person is never afraid of truth. Either accept civil society's demand or quit.
Sachin. Friends add your name and sms this to every one you know as well as to newschanel(say NDTV on 56388 for instance) .

Hello friends
I still've some mental barriers regarding our demands & the peace march:
-What are our demands & most important what are its benefits.
Our demand is to create a strong lokpal i.e to accept the draft of civil society rather than the draft formed by government.Through our movement we would basically support anna ji.
-What if the govt directly refuses to accept our demands.
They may, but not doing anything about it ,will make it certain!
-For how long we r going to take our march.
It would be day long i.e 15th Aug
-A short one will end up also peacefully.
-A movement like this would require a long fight & it will be very difficult to gather masses for a long span.
A day's march will make an huge impact!And if it is successfully implemented then the participant would themselves decide the future course of action.
The basic point is 'to start'.

-Even if we manage to do so & take A longer route this will be a direct fight with the govt.
We wont fight, we will just peacefully demonstrate our dissatisfaction of the current handling of lokpal bill.
-This will pressurize the govt to Suppress the movement at any cost & they won't hesitate in treating us the same way as dogs are treated or as Baba Ramdev was dealt with.
Baba Ramdev's group was violent as they passed statement such as 'we will create an army' etc..
we would stick to the Gandhi ji's principle of ahimsa

-they may use cane, tear gas or worst randomly arrest any one and put any weird charges. & no one would like to have a police case against them.
these techniques are used against rowdy crowd, we are planning for a peaceful Moun Rally.

-This probably may brake our strength.

I'm not trying to de-motivate this spirit but want to have a back-up plan.
What if a situation like this occurs, what would be our next step.

By how long I meant the minimum duration of our movement which now u've made clear will be a short one.
But I still insist that a short rally will end up also shortly and peacefully. Every other day these kind of gatherings are happening somewhere but are hardly noticed like few days back was in bangelore but even I didn't came to knw about it as it didn't make any impact.
Today TOI has started a miss call campaign against corruption on this no 08030088502. Previously also people have given miss calls in various campaigns but did it raise govt eyebrows. No.
A short one may be successful only (my point of view) if done on nation wide scale and giving a direct msg to the govt:
WE REGRET WE VOTED FOR YOU AND CHOSE YOU, BUT NEXT TIME THERE WON'T BE ANY REGRETS.

The reason I'm saying all this is because lets assume everything happens as you are stating and we manage to take out a maun rally and finish it by the evening peacefully:-
1) what will be its impact. I've seen so many protest in delhi against corruption. Does any one addresses them?
2)It might would be difficult to regather the same strength and spirit to give momentum to our next campaign.

All I want to say is lets do it assuming it as our only chance and lets look straight in their eyes and give them a blow.

As far as Ramdev Baba is concerned he never had declared a sena before the crowd being beaten up and his rally was soiled. These declarations were only made after lathi charge at ramleela ground. He may be a rowdy or a crook in your vision but what about the laymen participating in his movement. they were not rowdy nor created any nuisance.

Nothing can be better If we can gather mass on nation wide scale and send a direct msg, but that is very difficult.
I have already suggested if we can try a sms campaign.
Its time to order now rather than demanding.

Hello,

Thanks for the quick response.

We have a very firm objective "TO MAKE OUR NATION CORRUPTION FREE".

Anna ji is leading us. Drafted Lokpal Bill is going to be tabled in the parliament. The initial impression/perception that I get from the media reports are:
  1. The govt. side drafting members don't have a focused mind towards Lokpal. They are more interested to make the bill, which can be an eyewash to common people and so that politicians can continue discussing and avoid further mass movement. Even if the bill is passed, it will be more of a diluted bill, hence again Lokpal will not have any firm power.
  2. Anna ji has declared that he will go for fasting again form 16th August, if govt. don't listen to civil society.
  3. Mr. Kapil Sikbal and Mr. Digvijay Singh has more or less made it clear that the government is not going to listen to the nations cry in favour of Lokpal
So, our main objective will be to SUPPORT ANNA JI for his fight against corruption.

If by 14th August, there is no positive sign from the govt's side, we can start our fight from 15th August. When we will demand for INDEPENDENCE AGAINST CORRUPTION.

This will further give a big boost to Anna ji towards his fight from 16th August. The government will understand that ANNA HAZARE JI is not alone, however, there are thousends and lakhs of Anna Hazare throughout the country to whom the govt. will have to answer.

How to make it possible:
  1. We will pick/identify people from different cities/town who can lead for the movement. The same can be done through this forum, facebook, twitter, etc.
  2. After that we will discuss among selected members through phone/e-mail/discussion forums to make a peaceful march and how to guide the entire mass to be non-violent and speechless (even in front of the media).
  3. Name & contact e-mail ID/Phone nos. of the identified members will be given in the social websites, inviting people to join our movement.
  4. The individuals from different city/town will select meeting/start point and the rout map by themselves. The same shall be further uploaded in the social web-sites.
  5. Fund required will be collected by donations and the same shall also be arranged by the individuals selected. Extra fund (if any) can can forwarded to Civil Society.
  6. The details of the processing will be announced in the media by press conference, ahead of the scheduled MOUN MARCH day.
  7. It will only be banners, sign-boards, etc., that will speak on behalf of us.
  8. Not to hamper any body/people/traffic during the procession.
Looking for your comments/suggestion regarding the same. Hope, we will be able to make our dream a success.

Regards
DP Chaudhuri

Dear Mr. DP Chaudhuri,

I happened to read your post only now. My 2 cents worth on your points.

I agree with everything you've said, except for point 5, where I suggest an amendment:

1. Instead of:
5. Fund required will be collected by donations and the same shall also be arranged by the individuals selected. Extra fund (if any) can can forwarded to Civil Society.
Fund required will be pooled in by donors working together, on their own, and the printing and distribution will be done by the donors/ volunteers working together. No funds will be collected by us, as a group, with later accountability, giving rise to someone raising objections, etc. Remember, even the payment made by the Govt. to foot the cost of air travel of Anna's team outstation members was made an issue?

2. Also, I have been making a simple suggestion repeatedly, but it appears no t to be founding favour. I have experience in marketing, and I can tell you this idea can work wonders, and requires no great effort or money. Only, we should believe in it and adopt it. Personally I won't be upset if it is not accepted, but I feel we may have lost a great opportunity to make the country sit up and take notice of us. I reproduce it below:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
Hi Folks,
Given the diversity of the backgrounds of the civil society, and given that we are up against the wall (read, "the Government"), we need to discover a simple yet effective way to demonstrate to the Government, the media and ourselves that we are gaining strength every day.
I have a suggestion for Anna's team. Shall we start wearing 'BLACK' badges/ bands in our top dress (shirt/ tops/ kameez/ saree) every day till we get the kind of Lokpal Bill we want? If they agree, they need to promote this idea strongly.
It is easy for all of us to influence others in our families and in our friend's circles to wear the same too. Black badges are easy to get anywhere in India, they can be in any shape or size, they won't cost much, they need not be designed and dispatched to other places, and this could come to symbolize our protest against CORRUPTION.
Also, expecting people cross India to actively do something else to show our solidarity, which can also be noticed, will be difficult. Black badges/ bands will make it easy for people to show their solidarity with the Lokpal Bill movement.
And seeing this, even those who are not aware would enquire what it is all about, and we'll get a chance to explain.
The Press will also find a symbol of this movement to focus on.
We can explain that this black badge/ band signifies that we're in darkness, and till we see light, we'll wear black badges.
Typically, gathering critical mass is difficult, and even as we gather critical mass, it is difficult to demonstrate that we have, in deed, done so.
And when everyone realizes that we have gathered critical mass, this could help us step up our efforts to the next stage, if need be.
If you agree, can you please draw the attention of your friends and relatives to this suggestion?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~

Ganesan. :~)
