New political party

The decision to form a political party seems okay in the present circumstances. However, the Anna Team had made some strategic errors.

(1) Fasting though an effective and peaceful method should not have been resorted randomly and the second Fasting at Bombay should have been avoided.

(2) Just collecting a few thousand people in Delhi will not provide the right forum or will not be effective in showing people's ire against corruption.

(3) A well oiled organisation should have been set up in all the states or at least in major towns of the states who will, at short notice be able to come out in the open for peaceful demonstrations.

(4) Simple and effective methods like human chain in all states at the same time should be used to demonstrate the strength of the forum.

(5) Short time road blocks of 30 minutes should be organised in major towns by activists without causing inconvenince to general public for long but effectively demonstrating the support for the movement.

(6) Major source of corruption is political funding and effective steps need to be taken to control this.

(7) Now that the plunge has been taken to form a political party, a proper constitution and screening committee to select people of clean record to the Core committee should be established.

(8) Rather than concentrating on an ombudsman Lokpal bill, many small small reforms such as "Right to Services' Bill etc should be prressed as a pre-lude to the ombudsman bill

(9) Politicians are human beings and they have a family to breed and an effective method of looking at the human aspect of the problem should be taken note of. This is not the time of Mahatma Gandhi who had thrown up everything for the sake of nation.

(10) 'First past the post ' method of declaring a candidate elected should be reviewed. Practices in developed countries should be used as a model.

(11) An Intelligence and Anti-Corruption should be a first steip within the party who will keep a tab on corruption within the fledgling party.

(12) 10% vote share capable of tilting the election results should be the target and winning seats should not be the immediate prerogative. At the same time political parties should realise that without the support of the new party winning elections will be difficult

(13) Parliamenttary ambitions of new members and these ambitions hijacking the party and its objectives should be thoroughly checked with suitable safeguards. Otherwise it will be a repetition of VP Singh's Janata Dal where all local satraps made money and build their own set up.

Hello,

An Anti Corruption Forum need not ride piggy back on Baba Ramdev or his infrastrcuture.

Let us wait for the actions of Baba Ramdev. He must have proven himself as a YOga Guru with sufficient fan following. However, his business interests and transparency of how he conducts these businesses will take time to come out. So Baba Ramdev has to prove himself as a crusader against corruption even though his slogan for brining back black money from overseas will find immediate takers.

What we need is committed people who has the interests of the country at heart and is serious about cleaning the Indian polity.

First step should be to fight for issues like "Right to Service"which affect the common man and restore a sense of trust in the ability of the system to deliver rudimentary services like ration card, birth certificate, marriage certificate etc.

A dream project by the government to have unique identity card for every Indian is a starting point to this. Even that is hanging fire on procedural objections from one ministry or the other. Subsidy on a plethora of items covering the rich and poor should first be removed. Subsidies should be paid to deserving people who are identified by their unique card and subsidies should be quantified in cash terms and paid through bank accounts.

Cash transactions in property and real estate should be stopped forthwith for property deals in all towns where banking facilities exist. Cash withdrawals above 10,000 should be stopped and all transactions should be through ATM cards or by cheque. In developed countries even bus tickets have to be paid by card money.

Just as Swiss bank accounts, cooperative bank accounts are used as safe heavens by political mafiosi and real estate mafia since coopoerative banks are not required to notify the Income tax on transactions above Rs.50,000/- . Why Cooperative banks are exempted.

Private holdings of gold among Indians are estimated to be of the order of more than 900 billion USD. How much of these are held by poor people. Substantial part of this is bought out of unaccounted money and is a convenient material for hiding slush money. Government should bring this all into account and if necessary pay 1% interest to the holders and levy wealth tax from those who own more than 100 grams or a limit to be set.

Why conents in bank lockers are secret. Except documents all material mainly gold ornaments stored in bank lockers should be inventorised. Now all the gold stored in lockers are private and dead stock benefiting none.

So much of dowry related deaths and harrassment happens in India and still one of the major benchmark for social status is the total ornaments worn by the bride. Wearing gold ornaments beyond a limit should be made an offence so that Indians are rid of this boastful and evil practice.

We come across strikes and bandhs to protest against petrol and diesel price rise. How many of us see bandhs or hartals to protest against the increase in price of alcohol or alcoholic drinks?

Many of these could be curbed by rather simple legislations which will not directly invite harsh protests and get a lot of silent support. Can we take up these issues one by one so that there is progressive curb on corruption and social evils.

New Party

This is the need of the hour. This decision will have the following implications..

1) All political parties will be forced to field clean people in the coming election
2) The present Govt.(corrupt) will be forced to pass Jan Lokpal, Independent CBI, Citizen charter etc..
3) During election we would tell people that if we come to power within 30 days we would implement Jan Lokpal, Independent CBI, citizen charter.. etc..

As far as I am concerned this is a great opportunity..

Pray God to Help this Great Nation (which was some times back)

Jai Hind.
