Is Lokpal Bill effective

The Lokpal Bill does not tackle any of the root causes of corruption. Instead, as Pratap Bhanu Mehta puts it in his wonderful critique, the bill amounts to "an unparalleled concentration of power in one institution that will literally be able to summon any institution and command any kind of police, judicial and investigative power." In other words, in a situation where the problem is power, we create an entity that has even more power and, what is more, has appointed officials instead of elected ones. As Shuddhabrata Sengupta writes this is not "the deepening, but ... the profound erosion of democracy."

I'm sure the man is well-intentioned, and has achieved much in the past. But he is fighting for the wrong thing here. You do not cure a diabetic man by feeding him sweets; equally, you cannot root our corruption by creating more centres of power.

What BS you're talking... Decentralization of Power has to happen. This means "we the people" are empowered to call their MP's to do exactly what "we the people" think appropriate.

Can you destroy the government's autocratic power? Are we supposed to work according to parliament or rather according to constitution? Aren't we have the right to have participatory democracy? Shouldn't laws be made after asking people what they think appropriate or have we given the parliament the veto power to decide our future just because we voted for them?

You've to shift the power buttons from one place to another to get a neutral body that investigates parliament and parliamentary exercises neutrally! If all power is centralized in government then government will abuse and MP's will loot country.

How silly of u to think that... we hv absolutely no body to deal with corruption in our country. BTW - CBI is a crime investigating agency, not a specialized body to deal with sensitive issues of corruption. Hence, we anyway need one.

Next, if the existing system was enough then India wouldn't hv been country with highest amount of black money stashed abroad (three times the entire world put together) and v would not be seeing huge number of criminals in parliament (same parliament which we are insulting but political parties are respecting by fielding criminals as candidates)

Lastly, if there is a system, then why is it a secret?? why is our govt not educating us what to do when we are asked for bribe for a simple FIR etc.

As far as your subject is concerned 'humain aur koi kaam nahi hai kya'. soon you will hv nothing to do, when the big corporates and wealthy politicians will flee the country after looting all of our natural resources, polluting our rivers, creating an environment where flash floods and droughts will be rampant. This is a reality just because our govt is not telling us does not mean it doesnt exist...
