Cool When somebody says "STOP CORRUPTION", I wonder "Who does??!!"

One of the other many main reasons, for corruption growing so deeply is, as I've figured out, either people are unaware or, they are aware but still don’t care, that, a huge part of their hard earned money, paid as tax, a kind of charity we are doing, to create some financial equality across the nation is not serving it’s very purpose but being gobbled by the political and bureaucratic BEASTS big time!!

People, especially ones (I'm one ), working in MNCs, who are extremely educated (as we claim) and can add abundant value to their role playing in nation’s growth, have very little time for their very own nation’s headache and the issues with it, but are busy slogging for different countries, contributing for their Economic growth and happy being paid huge salary and contented paying huge tax, at the end of MARCH, every financial year, thinking their duty as Indian citizen ends then and there. And have very little clue on the intention they are made to pay such huge chunks of their salary as tax and don't give a damn to the process it undergoes after they pay it to govt.

When I say this above statement, trust me, I mean it. Perhaps not everybody, but with majority of the population, the case is this, bcz I work in an MNC and I closely know the fate. Having a little national pride and say something abt nation with a little passion (“passion”, NO I DON’T MEAN PATRIOTISM), ppl around, tag u as “Mahatma Gandhi” and that’s a satirical title, one doesn’t want to be tagged with and feels embarrassed of taking responsibility in nation’s issues.
It’s mostly fashion rather, not real passion, if anything like “Anti-corruption movement” happens most of the times. We like "India against corruption" and "Join/support Anna Hazare" in Facebook and flaunt it fashionably, but ever had, try taking a look at what really is going on with it??!!
Most of us, who shriek “STOP CORRUPTION” holding any quoted boards in any movement, assume that WE ARE UNCORRUPT, by default!. We forget, how many times we bribed, how many times we bypassed the rules, how many times we kept mum while watching something being looted, how many times we have not reported any illegal practice witnessed, how many times we have asked for bribe and all these activities are also called corruption or contribution to the corruption….

When we are failing miserably in our duties as citizens, we have no rights to point fingers at people, our beloved, chosen Netas and learned bureaucrats, who are failing in theirs.

Now that we are asking them (DON'T KNOW WHOM) to “STOP CORRUPTION”, so we should obviously be “ UNCORRUPTED” (by default), no second thought in it!! Blame someone and claim that you are right!! You see, thats the beauty "Human psychology".

Thats why, even so many politicians (curbing their conscience), joined Anna Hazare and started supporting and yelling "STOP CORRUPTION"!! HA!!! What on the earth can go possibly wrong than this??? "An Indian POLITICIAN shouting STOP CORRUPTION"??!!!

"STOP CORRUPTION"??? (Mann!! I hate that phrase!!) If everybody says so, who should really act and stop it yaar?? Are we assuming, if we keep yelling like this for a long time, “Corruption” gets pissed off and halts it’s functioning, itself on ONE FINE DAY??!!!

@Bhargavi - very true indeed and it clearly reflects the hypocrisy of Indians. If you want to know why corruption is so rampant, buy a car. Not joking...once you begin to drive on India's roads you will begin to see why there's corruption. No - its not the bribes we pay to the traffic cops. It is disregard for others. No motorist gives due regard to others - its always "me first". If one sees another motorist trying to change lanes ahead of him, he will simply speed up and race ahead - basically he's saying "after me", instead of giving way and allowing the other to come in front of him. And this attitude is rampant amongst all of us...it pervades our thinking...its always "me first, I don't care how". Its because of this utter disregard for others - also known as "selfishness" that corruption exists. Till we become more accommodating of others, think about others mutually, things will not change. Yes laws will help - but only so much.

Bhargavi,
Great that people in Bangalore are preparing hard for visit of Anna Hazare ji on 28th May. Your efforts will pay dividend and will help in mass mobilization. I hope that the momentum gathered will continue till we achieve our goal of corruption free India.

“Having a little national pride and say something abt nation with a little passion (“passion”, NO I DON’T MEAN PATRIOTISM), ppl around, tag u as “Mahatma Gandhi” and that’s a satirical title, one doesn’t want to be tagged with and feels embarrassed of taking responsibility in nation’s issues.”
I read your post against and found above statement held my attention. This is true but very shameful too. In other countries, if you show passion for nation or show concern about national issues, you will get respect and attention. I have mixed emotions of surprise and shame for this.

Mr. Mishra, the number of people in the “Member’s list” makes no sense, unless they are active members, not just in the forum, but also in real life situations and have vowed to do something about the problem. That is exactly what I meant in the whole article. That we join forums, like pages and communities in Facebook or something until the buzz is around and we think we are done with it. Once dust settles, we don’t care.
Phony and hypocrites to be blunt!
That will in no way help, how many members join. Starting a movement and getting a bill passed is of no use, unless we take strict oath to maintain the corrected system the same way, once set it right on its path.
Revolution needs to be immediately followed by the austere mind set in maintaining and making it evolve and transmute through the generations. But the whole problem with India is, we are either hyper/frenzied about something or we become immune, keep our calm, stand tall bearing all the shit for ages.
First off all, we (every citizen) should take an oath “I, AS A RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN OF INDIA, WONT ENCOURAGE OR ENTERTAIN CORRUPTION IN ANY MEANS, WAYS OR SENSE”, then throw mud at person who we claim “CORRUPT” so is how we can ask HIM TO STOP CORRUPTION. What say Sir?

@Rohit: Thanks very much for your comments. Yes you are so correct that laws are NOT THE ONLY thing that help remove corruption; we should have something to make it strictly abide by. Should we have another law for it?? Of course Indian constitution is the BIGGEST in the whole world. I now guess, this is how it grew so BIGGER!! A new law can always be made in curbing the current law being violated, but again, we have another window opened, to make another law to restrict this lately made law to be sullied. Like Nuclear chain reaction, this LAW MAKING never ends. Isn’t it the way, CVC, CBI, XYZ emerged?? And now Lokpal. But what can stop us from being corrupt? When we see corruption in CBI, CVC, SC and in near future LOKPAL too (GOD FORBID!!)??

Yes, laws and then more laws to enforce them will only lead to more chaos and corruption. It only makes stronger the point that it all depends on the individual - the value system instilled in the person from childhood. Now that begs the question - what value system does our country as a whole have? I'm afraid none - whatever value-system comes, comes from parents and/or family alone. The only value-system taught in schools is the national anthem, description of freedom fighters and yes the ubiquitous things about unity and patriotism - the only semblence of which is in the form of either cricket or hating pakistan!! Tell me, in what other ways are Indians united? Are we truly united - to the extent of helping somebody selflessly?

Oh yes one other thing we all would be united in, is when asked to join the military!! Almost the entire country apart from those from military background would cry out in unison that its "unconstitutional" or unfair or some such adjective.

I wonder how people would react if we have a law that makes it compulsary for every Indian to serve in the military - what I know there is such a law in US and Switzerland, not sure about the rest of the west. I don't know how a person would react if s/he (of her/his son/daughter) is asked to report to military duty (leaving job behind) in India. I really wonder.

And that's a problem - we're getting freedom for "free". When something is available for free, it loses its value - and with us (Indians) this is all the more true! Someone somewhere is doing something and why should we bother? We're free!! How many think about the cost of this freedom? How many even spare a thought about the price a few of our people (the soldiers) pay for getting us our freedom?

Laws and legislation are for those who respect them, otherwise they fill the showcases of advocates in the form of big volumes. One can be punished for his unlawful actions but can't be executed in any court for sins committed through hearts and minds. Until and unless we change our attitude, no law or legislation can prevent the corruption. Our country was treated as VISHWAGURU not because of its wealth but because of the values inherited by our ancestors.
We are still richest in terms of wealth if the whole black money deposited outside is brought back and the idle wealth deposited under the lockers of temples and Dharmsthals is utilized for the development of the society.

corruption starts at top and then it spreads to bottom. and it was heavily started by indira gandhi and started using money/muscle power in election. root of corruption is money required to fight election. i have posted solution to corruption, please read it.
