Did our INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT suffer from UNDUE DELAY and LACK OF TRANSPARENCY ?

Yes Friends,

That is one major question that find asking myself a lot these days.

Many Historians and People have commented that that there was some -

(i) unnecessary delay
(ii) undesirable lack of transparency

in the achievement of the Indian Independence by the adherence to Gandhian Methods and/or Policies. At first this perplexed me, but as I researched more, and analysed deeper and deeper, it started appearing to me that there might be some truth in it.

In order to understand the situation better, we need to take a deeper look at the Gandhian Principles and Policies. However, instead of explaining you all the details, I'll just leave with the important links. This is because though I've already formed my own conclusions, I don't wish to impose them on you, and I'll leave you to form your own.

Before you begin, a little word of caution : this might be a long read, as some of the articles may be long.

I'm providing some of the broad points that have occurred to me, along with links to the sources or articles at various places on the Internet :-

(6) Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had defeated Nehru by winning 12 out of the 15 votes in the Congress AICC, and therefore was selected to become the Congress President in 1947. As per the Indian Independence Act 1947, it was the Congress President who would become the First Prime Minister of India, when the Transfer of Power took place. But soon after winning the vote Sardar Patel withdrew his name in favour of Nehru, at Gandhiji's insistence. Why did this happen ? I checked high and low for an answer, but couldn't find one.

There was lot more information at various places on the web, but I've limited my presentation only to those that I found backed by strong Evidence and found credible.

After going through all these facts, a few questions arise in my mind –

(1) Could these facts really be responsible, or provide a clue, for the delay that historians and people say was caused in the achievement of Indian Independence ?

(2) If these facts had any impact, did they do so alone or in a combination of two or more ?

(3) And can these facts actually mean that our Freedom Movement may have lacked transparency and might have hidden facts that we do not know about ?

I don't know. I have formed my opinion; but I'd like to know Yours. And that, I believe is best left to you to form.

If possible, please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Summit.

Hi All,

I feel that this forum should be strictly used only for discussing corruption related issues that we face in our lives directly (with lower level bureaucracy), or indirectly (like the 2G, Adarsh, CWG etc. which may not affect the lives of aam aadmi on a day to day basis, but distort the national economics and hence affect our lives every day).

I'm surely open and willing to discuss the issues the author has raised, but they are unrelated to the forum and are nothing but SPAM. It belongs to a different forum.

Such SPAM postings tend to de-focus our attention, and must be resisted. I'm NOT averse to discussing the issues raised, if in the right forum.

I wish the moderators take a stand about SPAM in this forum.

Thanks,

Ganesan. :~)

Dear Ganesan,

Thank you for your reply. I really understand your concerns about SPAM, and this being an instance of one.

But let me assure you, I had, and still have, no such intention when I posted this here.

This is simply because of my apprehension whether the corruption that we face today is in fact a result of events that began long back in the past.

History is not a discrete chunk in time, but rather a constant, continuous flow. My entire intention of posting this here is to present before our readers the Possibility that Incidents in our Past might still be Contributing to the Present Menace of Corruption that we Face Today.

MY HINT : PLEASE DON'T READ ONLY THE LINES, BUT ALSO BETWEEN THE LINES. ALSO, TRY AND SEE THE EVENTS NOT IN ISOLATION, BUT RATHER AS PROBABLY INTERCONNECTED AND PARTS OF A BIGGER TRUTH.

I assure you that I've posted this here only after careful Deliberation and Research. Trust me I'd be the Last Person ever to spam someone, let alone spam a Forum, and that too as important as this.

Hope you'll very carefully and scrutinizingly take a second look and a second thought, and actually see through the Reason why I've posted this here.

Thanks and wishing you all the Best,

Summit.

Dear Summit,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

While I see why you have posted it, I still don't believe the events you have posted have any reasonable bearing on the present corruption in the country. I have nothing personal against you or your posting. Just that I believe it will only dilute our focus.

Sure enough, many seemingly unrelated events may be related in some obscure way; we should see whether they are related strongly or in a very weak way. We can also relate, rather strongly, the current corruption to the British rule, the Moghul invasion, Guptas and Chanakya, the Ramayana & the Mahabaratha and the vedas. But these won't help us solve our today's problem of corruption.

(If we're quoting from the past by way of suggesting a specific way forward, that should be fine, though. For example, what Chanakya may have said should be done when corruption exceeds limits and those in Government are part of it.)

So, let's stick to the current situation and see how to solve them, without loss of focus. More so in this forum, as Anna is trying to mobilize popular support for Jan Lokpal Bill and the Government is trying to come up with its own version, and both the sides have misgivings about the other. We want a resolution to it fast. So, this is a forum different from most others, in that it has a time bound task.

We'll surely discuss other issues in fora closely related to them.

Thanks,

Ganesan. :~)

Dear Ganesan,

Thanks for your reply.

I understand your concerns about the events being obscure links to the present situation.

But I repeat, I've posted this here only after careful deliberation and research. And I add, all this is the result (though only a miniscule part) of research for the past twenty years.

And I have a strong basis not to think of these incidents as obscure.

Let me put it this way - If the roots of a plant are infected, how long does it take for the remaining shoot to contract? And how far can that infection spread ?

Was the Indian Independence Really an INDEPENDENCE, or merely a TRANSFER OF POWER...from the English Haves to the Indian Haves...while completely sidelining the Have-Nots...?

And What Kind and Extent of Far-Reaching Consequences could that have Created ?

Do you see where I'm coming from right now ?

HINT AGAIN : READ BETWEEN THE LINES, NOT ONLY OF WHAT I'VE WRITTEN, BUT ALSO OF THE ARTICLES THAT THIS POST LINKS TO.

Caveat : Please do not mistake me to be a Communist....I'm not...I believe in being a Pragmatist...and therefore always undertake painstaking research before arriving at any conclusion....and not always does the mention of Haves and Have-nots need to belong to Communism...they're pretty much part of Social Reality...I'm sure you'd agree with me on that...

Thanks once again. Would look forward to your response.

And another important Hint : All these articles are PARTS OF ONE BIG JIGSAW PUZZLE. PIECE THEM TOGETHER IN THE PROPER WAY AND YOU MIGHT HAVE THE COMPLETE AND CORRECT PICTURE EMERGING.

Place the events in a Chronologically Ordered Manner, Read and Re-Read Again, not just The Lines but also Between the Lines, and you'll be able to see the entire sequence of history in its correct Picture and Nature. You'll be able to see...what happened when....and what led to what....

Yes, this is not for nimble brains...and with what I gather from our conversation...you certainly possess the intellect and the ability to do this....I agree, this might take some time though...

A Caveat : What will come in your way are your Emotions though.....I can tell you because I went through the same circumstances....I cannot too well express the grief and the pain I endured when some of our leaders...whom I had placed on a high Pedestal...fell from there....Something inside me broke, I couldn't sleep at nights...drooling over why this had to happen....and my eyes wept not tears but blood.....

However, as I came out of my own ashes, I realised that something good had also taken place...my vision had cleared, the mist dispelled...and for the first time in my life I saw my nation in her true self...in all her Pristine beauty, in all her Shining Grandeur, in all her Divine Radiance....for the first time in my life, I saw what Indianness truly meant...and how Great India was....

And I knew what was cut out for me....to take her again to the Heights of Glory that she truly Deserves....

I know you too will go through those intense moments of despair as you journey through those straits of discovery....those cavernous echelons where even the reassuring, soothing musicals of integrity will come echoing back like the laughter of demons....leaving you thoroughly cold and numb, clamouring desperately for a reply....And therefore my caution....

And Another Reason : Take me not as someone who wishes to oppose Annaji's movement...on the contrary, if you go well through this forum, you'll find that I've been one of his biggest supporters...My Entire Reason for posting these is to further strengthen this Movement....and also to alert my brothers and sisters to the Extra Preparations they must always keep...that is, EDUCATION....for God Forbid, if anything were to happen to Anna's Movement, then we all must be ready for what we have to do next....we must all be ready with our Education...For EDUCATION is the biggest weapon with which we can fight out these Corrupt Politicians.

And on your Point of Obscurity : You already must have noticed how we're under a dynastic rule...Time and again, many of our citizens have complained about how the Nehru-Gandhi Dynasty is ruling us...and all I'm talking about is the era in which Nehru and Gandhi worked for the Independence of India...along with many other leaders and people...most of who seem to now have been relegated to the background...and OBSCURITY...does my discussion on that period still seem to be so obscure to you?

Do you know, the biggest Reason why we have so much corruption in our country today is that OUR KNOWLEDGE OF OUR OWN HISTORY, ESPECIALLY OUR INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT, IS CORRUPT ?

Not that it is wholly our fault....true, we do have a share because of our ignorance and inactivity for which we couldn't stand up strong and resist the Corruption, and the Distortion of our history...but the other side, our leaders are also to blame, for reasons of Lack of Honesty and Integrity.

Too many of our Leaders, including Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose have been denied their proper place in the HISTORY OF OUR INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT DUE TO THE CLIQUE OF DISHONEST LEADERS, which amounts to NOTHING SHORT OF INSULTING THEM. IMAGINE - GIVING UP YOUR LIFE FOR THE NATION - AND THEN GETTING IN RETURN WHAT - INSULT ! DO YOU THINK WE'RE DOING JUSTICE TO THOSE OF OUR LEADERS ?

A Lot of the People here are saying - the Corruption is within us, and we need to fight that First. True - the Corruption is Within us - FOR THERE IS THE CORRUPTION OF HISTORY WITHIN US. It may not be our own doing, BUT WE CERTAINLY ARE CARRYING THIS CORRUPT HISTORY AROUND WITH US - AND THAT CORRUPT HISTORY, NOW MINGLED WITH OUR EMOTIONS IS DICTATING OUR ACTIONS - AND THE RESULT OF SUCH ACTIONS COULD ONLY BE - CORRUPTION. The Corruption of Actions Manifests itself in EITHER AN ACTIVE WAY - i.e. by Actively Committing Corruption, OR IN A PASSIVE WAY - through the Lack of Intentions, Energy, Desire or MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Courage to Fight Corruption.

YES MY DEAR FRIEND - THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I HAVE PRESENTED THESE HERE - THE BIGGEST REASON FOR CORRUPTION IN OUR COUNTRY IS - THE CORRUPT HISTORY THAT WE CARRY INSIDE OURSELVES.

Not Until that History can be Corrected, can Corruption be Rooted out. As simple as that. Think well, and there should be no reason I see that you would not agree with me.

Can you tell me why we are not taught World History in our schools ? I'll tell you why - The knowledge of World History will immediately open up the International Context of the Developments of our Independence Movement. What if we Indians learnt that and started questioning the actions of some of our leaders ? And the language to justify the Absence of World History in our school curriculums - WE NEED TO STUDY HISTORY IN THE INDIAN CONTEXT. Who ever said we don't ? BUT THEN WHO EVER SAID THAT WORLD HISTORY WAS NOT NEEDED TOO ? If someone did, I'd be the last person to even consider giving that a hearing, let alone agree to it.

So now my dear Friend, would you still consider I'm speaking from a point of Obscurity ?

Please do respond. I'd love to know what you think.

Thanking You,

Summit.

Is this a copy-paste jigsaw?
Hello Anjali,

The Article is basically a series of links to other places on the web that shower more light on our Independence Movement and the possible delays and distortions that might have arisen out of some of the procedures and policies adopted at the time.

Well in that sense, it does seem to be some kind of a jigsaw...

If there's something you've not liked about the format, please let me know and if possible also suggest the ways to improve it.

Thanks for taking out time to read the post. And yeah, I also noticed that you LIKE-d my other Post - "Was the Indian Independence Movement MORE INDIAN than GANDHIAN ?". Thanks once again for that.

Wish you the Best,

Summit.

You the youth can create new history!

Dear Anjali,

Thanks for your reply.

I really appreciate your comments, but the fact is I'm at the fag end of all this information. Compared to what many others among the Academics and the Media know, I'm still a kid.

For instance, lets talk about Ms. Purabi Roy (to me she's God Incarnate). She's a Professor at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. But her renown is far more as an Ardent Netaji Researcher. In her quest for the truth on Netaji, she has travelled to far-off lands including Russia, Europe and the Americas, all on her own, and extracted information from some of the most unimaginable places.

She with many other dedicated Social Activists had brought many of these up in a Bangla Television Serial on Investigative Journalism called 'Khonj-Khabor'. The Program was produced by another Social Activist Divyajyoti Basu, who too, you could call another face of God. For the man wasn't just an honest and an actively helpful Journalist, he was Rock-Strong in his commitments too, and had shown an unwavering attitude towards fighting corruption in West Bengal.

They went a long way, and brought up many hidden and unknown facts and references of Netaji and the Indian Freedom Movement; some glorious, some muddled in vice and treachery. Foremost among them was how allegedly the power-hungry Nehru had conspired against Netaji and had him imprisoned in Russia with the help of Stalin (yes, Netaji did NOT die in the "air-crash" at the Taiwan Airport - the Taiwan Government itself has confirmed that THERE WAS NO SUCH AIR-CRASH AT THE TAIHOKU AIRPORT ON THE DAY ON WHICH SOME CLAIM NETAJI HAD DIED - Rather he had escaped to Russia via Manchuria - you may look up the Justice Manoj Mukherjee Commission Report on Netaji's disappearance).

The show was aired for a number of years, with every episode exposing a bit more of the corruption in the Indian Freedom Movement, and the treachery against Netaji. But then the "Big Goons" struck back - and it's now over a year the show's off-air.

They had also brought out a book - called 'Netaji-r Khonj-khabor' (Netaji's Khonj-Khabor). It is an extensive and comprehensive compilation by another Netaji-devoted journalist Anoop Chattopadhyay. But the book is in Bengali, making it quite difficult to share over the Internet. But you may assure yourself - it is one of the most authentic and comprehensive works on Netaji ever published.

Everyone knows these facts - every single Politician, every single Media House, and every single person (like you) who has ever jostled with authentic works and news on Indian and World History. But everyone's silent. Because they see the fate of the ones that tried to speak - they went off-air.

But Truth has a habit of finding its way out. And I see it everyday. So much of information, that had earlier been tightly held captive behind iron doors, is today wide out in the open.

And yes, I agree with you. The Youth today can create history. And that is the Reason, I felt getting the information out here was important. Because until the Youth of today can THROW OUT THE CORRUPT HISTORY THAT THEY ARE CARRYING WITHIN THEMSELVES, they WILL NOT BE ABLE TO THROW OUT CORRUPTION FROM THIS COUNTRY.

And there's an even larger treasure behind this. Ok - I'll let you onto a 'big' secret - A few of the major pieces of information of this Jigsaw Puzzle have come to me only in the last 2 or 3 days - and, they've been some of the most vital, helping me arrive at the most important conclusions. And there's a sense of great satisfaction with posting them here - a great load seems to have come off me - both mental, and emotional. I now feel so light, ready, charged and geared up for the way ahead.

The time for me to jump into the Arena will come, and I'm sure Providence will let me know when it arrives. But before that, there're a few more important things I need to get done, including equipping myself with more Education. Because that, I feel, will be the biggest weapons I'll need in this war.

Thanks once again for your reply. I hope you'll keep encouraging me and helping me with your suggestions and comments.

Best Wishes,

Summit.
