I agree that infrastructure needs improvement - but it might also be that the infrastructure has already reached the best state that it can and can no longer grow/improve commensurate with population.

Let us consider this: Increasing frequency of trains so that there is less crowding per train and thus better travel conditions for the people. Question arises: How many trains can be run on a given track with adequate speed and safety? How many tracks can be laid (per direction) to have not just more trains per track but also more tracks? Is it feasible for railways to constantly keep acquiring land in order to do this (which, in many instances might result in people getting dislocated)? The next question is, how do you manage good frequency of outstation trains given the fact that many may have different destinations but share some length of track (say from the starting point)?

Utopia

Interesting discussions on the crowded railway compartments and the seeming discomfiture faced by the travelling people. To have all of these problems resolved to the total satisfaction of travelling populace would mean we would soon be living in utopia. The problem is--utopia is an imaginary island.

"Gentle man ! Government Policy & Plans lack to meet out requirements according the growth in population in each and every sector. This is the unique example of poor system eg. Things are sold at different prices in different states (Tally the price of petrol, cooking gas etc). Different taxes policies are implimented in different states. It seems that we are not living in united India. What do you think ?

"Shelter to criminals"

"Gentle Men ! Railway platefroms provide unique shelter to criminals. you may find pick-pocketers, thieves dressed up as a beggar and other who want to a safe place for hiding, easily get shelter on plateform. I have seen some of the person staying in collie room at gwalior railway station. I wonder no any railway staff dare to make them away from the platform. I think each section of paltform is not inspected regularly by railway department. This is the matter of security but who is responsible, nobody knows..........................................Rai lway police force is busy in making money finding the person without ticket and having some money making shetlement with him. Some police person also made their home in collie room so thant after finishing their duty, they easily start their money making work at railway plateform........................bande matram.

Mishra ji,

I agree with what you say, but at the same time it is also true that India's Passenger Population is far above what its Railway Infrastructure can take.

The Solution lies in Enhancing that Infrastructure, but then the question rises - how ?

To increase the capacity of trains plying on the tracks, the only solution that'd seem possible is to -

(i) either Convert all Trains to Double-Deckers,

(ii) or, convert those Single-Tier tracks to Multi-Tiers. That is, construct Over-head corridors (Flyovers) Along and Above the existing railway tracks, or Underground passages beneath them. Any one of that would be a MAMMOTH task.

I don't think we can blame this entirely on the Railways, but yes, I do feel that situations might've been much better had we taken care to plan well from the very moment we got Independence. And that, again, brings me to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, in ways more than one.

Enjoy reading your posts. Keep writing.

Thanks,

Summit.

There are wonderful plans for Railways on paper, but implementing the same requires political will.Who has the will?We are a crony-capitalist state and not a welfare state.

..........We are a crony-capitalist state and not a welfare state.

And a crony-socialist state as well...

We planned to have a mixed economy...i.e. a judicious mix of Capitalism and Communism...and call ourselves Socialist..."We, the People of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic and to secure to all its citizens..."

(P.S. : The words 'Socialist' and 'Secular' were however inserted by the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution in 1976, in what was only "Sovereign Democratic Republic" before.)

A judicious mix would mean taking the best of both...the best in both...

But instead we just took the worst of both....and here we are today...

Our Capitalism has become a Mad Run...our Communism a Free Lunch...

The 2G, Adarsh, Bofors and other scams show us how far our Capitalism has turned crony.

The Aarakshan (Reservation) system, the Division of our country by caste and creed for creating Vote Banks shows where our Communism has headed - into a Taxpayer Sponsored Luncheon.

No wonder our Socialism is now a ramshackle mess...

However, we might Credit our Democracy with a third Virtue - Crony-Burglarism !

Hope you haven't forgotten Suresh Kalmadi. But he's not all; the embezzlement of funds is EVERYWHERE - one look at the CAG (Comptroller-and-Auditor-General) reports tells it all - nay, SHOUTS IT ALL.

And to add to it - Ineducation and an Exploitative Polity held together by Wealth and Muscle have made sure that the Vicious Cycle never breaks!

Once the British reigned on us by Divide and Rule - Today our own Leaders are Doing It.

And we, the 'cattle' of this country, so 'intelligently' invest ourselves in figuring out whether Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi will the best choice for the next PM. My dear friends, none of the ills against us will stop until we decide that we're not going to be 'herded' by such loose gossip and cheap sentiments; until we are able to look beyond the mist that our 'beloved' Political Class has enshrouded us in. WE NEED TO GET PAST IT - WE NEED TO GET ACROSS TO THE REAL INDIA - TO THE POTENTIAL THAT EACH ONE OF US, AS INDIANS, HAS WITHIN OURSELVES - AND REALIZE IT.

And for that, we need - Education - and Tons of It. Everything begins with It. Not Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi.

Even we need to make all railway employees understand that they are earning
their bread & butter by serving passengers

1. Ticket booking system needs be up dated
2. Clean Railway plateform
3. Good waiting hall
4. Better quality of food in plateform
5. Most important Water & Toilet with in train
