Cool Our Constitution

A constitution, as I understand it, should be a pity document containing only what is absolutely essential. It should not be a massive book (with 400 and odd articles what else could it be called?). Already, more than 100 amendments have been carried through. That also explains the fallibility of the document. Our constitution has provided fodder only to the politicians and lawyers: politicians found it easy flout constitutional norms and lawyers have misinterpreted the articles and made money. This constitution of ours advocates both equality and reservation. On umpteen occasions, it says notwithstanding what is contained in article this or that certain specified steps will be taken for any specified period and so on and so forth. This is nothing but contradiction. That is why while our politicians and officials take oath under constitution and flagrantly violate the same knowing full well that the same constitution will provide remedy for violating. According to our constitution, reservation is both constitution and unconstitutional (not non constitutional).
I am of the view that most of our problems emanate from our constitution and converge back into it; and the two most potent things that have undone India are: one, the constitution of India that promises so much and two, politician bureaucrat combine that deliver so little. The obtaining scenario in the country is sufficiently indicative of this. There is a need to understand this and target this malaise.
