Online assessment of property tax to be introduced

In Chennai, payment of property tax could be through online. However, new property has first to be assessed which is still being done manually. The assessors demand bribe for making the assessment. For instance, in a huge complex of Jains Westminster at Saligramam Chennai, the assessor had demanded bribe at Rs.2 per sq.ft. You can imagine the collective bribe amount for 618 flats of average size of about 1000 sft.

Hence I have sent a mail to the Mayor and Commissioner of Chennai Corporation to introduce a system of online assessment of property tax today.
I request members of IAC to put their strength behind this demand.
