Exclamation Why I don't support Anna Hazare

IN ONE of the biggest movements the country has witnessed in recent days, there is a tidal wave of people thronging the streets – voluntarily, unified for a cause. But instead of happy at this sudden enthusiasm of an otherwise peaceful citizens of this developing nation, I feel troubled and disturbed. I only see it as an event that proves how easily we give into any instigation, how a common man who went out to fight for a cause, had been turned into a media-fed megalomaniac and pushed to a point of fighting with the ruling government, and how the country’s top media houses use the opportunity to verbally bash every government spokesperson they could bring to the platform, create sensation and package it under delibaterly provocative catch phrases (example - ‘Anna Country’ by Times of India; ‘New Age Gandhi’ by Hindustan Times).

Let us look at the expected outcome of this movement. A particular Jan Lokpal Bill stands at the center of the debate. A bill, which when passed, will create a parallel body that will allow citizens to bring top bureaucrats and politicians on a prosecution platform on a single charge of corruption. Currently, PM and large section of political fraternity enjoy immunity. They cannot be arrested or prosecuted for crimes. Apparently, the bill sounds fair and democratic till we dig a little deeper. Corruption is not something uniquely related to the prime minister’s office alone. Lalu Prasad Yadav to Mayawati to Jayalalitha - many of them has been charged with corruption in the past. The central investigation bureau (CBI) probed into most of these cases, filed reports and took it up in the court of law. What were the outcomes? We increased the number of pending cases in the judiciary. In a country where we still haven’t been able to o execute a person who attacked our parliament or killed many in a Mumbai terror attack – I do not think bringing the prime minister to the judgment table will solve a greater purpose. In fact, the very thought of media across the world carrying a headline one morning saying “Indian Prime Minister probed into for corruption” makes me feel nauseated.

Anna Hazare’s authoritative body that wishes to carry out this probe when required can be susceptible to same risks of corruption and bribery that the central government is mired in. So personally I am not very enthusiastic in creating or trusting a parallel body to smear my face in a world forum by calling my country’s prime minister corrupt. I have great respect for the chair, if not the person. And if that is at all necessary, then let us create instances by punishing the already charged personalities including various chief ministers and state politicians for various heinous crimes they are charged with before discussing this issue further. these views are really your very personal views. first consider that at a time one movement can be carried not so many. seconndly be educated in satyagrah and an-shan, ahinsa and tapasya.
this is only the best way to protest what anna is doing. it is not hunger strike, it is an an-shan. you are not aware of the fact too that a large number of people are aware well what they are doing and they very well understand the difference between lokpal and jan lokpal. other things you have written are irrelevant. no movement is run by philosophy. it is run by common sense and public consciousness. its success too depend upon it. anna is fighting for public rights and this is very simple to understand that if a strong law comes by any means it will benefit common man of India.

We all have to show our support to Anna and all those fighting against corruption. We can't just sit and watch, and wait for them to do everything.Being responsible citizens of this country we have to stand up too and support......go to the Ramlila grounds, take part in every peaceful protest and spread the correct awareness about the Lokpal bill to others, so more people can join Anna!

Though a lot of the points you make are very Good, there are still a few things we need to consider, and consider well.

AUTHOR'S QUOTE - "So personally I am not very enthusiastic in creating or trusting a parallel body to smear my face in a world forum by calling my country’s prime minister corrupt. I have great respect for the chair.....

RESPONSE - This is the problem with Abstractions. The Government uses an ABSTRACTION called "the Respect of the Parliament" and the "Respect of the Chair" and many others to shield itself from many MISCONDUCTS that it has committed in REALITY. They sell these concepts to us, and we Indians buy it, without considering whether the Price we are paying for such Purchases is Justified or Not. We have to stop buying into abstractions, or even if we do, we need to do so after careful consideration OF THE IMPACT OF SUCH ABSTRACTIONS ON REALITY. At this time, as I see it, we simply don't do that.

AUTHOR'S QUOTE - "While Gandhi’s protest had followers who wanted to remove the ruling government and create a independent ruling body with new ideologies for the country, Anna has a support from people who have themselves chosen the current government or will choose an alternate government from the same system......"

RESPONSE - The People who have chosen this government have done so out of DESPERATION, not out of CHOICE. That is why I support the "RIGHT OF REJECTION" and the "RIGHT OF RECALL" that Anna and his Team Propose to fight for after the Jan Lokpal Bill. The RIGHT OF REJECTION will allow you to completely Reject ALL CANDIDATES IN AN ELECTION IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH ANY OF THEM. Then you WILL NOT BE FORCED T CHOOSE FROM THE CROP OF CANDIDATES PROVIDED, as you have to do now. The RIGHT OF RECALL will allow you to call back Candidates if you find them not able to fulfil the aspirations of the People that they were elected with.

I am with Anna. And that is because though I know that this might not be the perfect solution, but this is still a step in the Right Direction. If amendments are needed, we can get them done as we move ahead.

No,the PM was not voted for by millions of people -he was thrust upon the us.Please visit two websites-icac.org.hk,UNODC.org .It has been accepted that there is an urgent need for an independent anti-corruption agency world over. Why do you think the world is facing a melt-down--CORRUPTION

Yes Anjali, that is another very valid point....thanks for adding it to my argument...

The Prime Minister of our country is NOT chosen directly by the people...but by the MPs...he could be one amongst the MPs...or he even might not be....he could just be anyone...

True...he is thrust upon us...

I accept the motive to fight against corruption but the way it is carried out is not acceptable and it will set a bad precedence to our country. If some one (common man, social activist, celebrity, etc) is expressing their view against this movement then everyone are pointing their fingers at the integrity, credentiability of that person. Is this is democracy dont i have rights to express my views & opinions and it doesnt mean that the opinion of those at roads are the opinion of the people of this country and others are not Indians.
Can anyone tell from were the corruption starts? It is from the common man (who gives it) in many cases for violating the law then why dont we cure the problem at the root itself?
All allegations are not true. In this current technology world were information spread faster than fire, electronic medium is used for both positive and negative forces. If somebody alleges someone it doesnt mean the allegations are true unless proper investigations are done. There is proverb - Dont believe what to see through your eyes, ears unless you do a proper investigation. All those who are supporting this movement can touch your soul and say that you have not paid or received bribe in your life?
The way in which the Anna and his team members talk are not matured or realistic. For example AK stating that in last meeting govt were listening to us and in today's meeting they were not listening instead they were talking, accusing govt as cheaters, liars, jokers. Blackmailing govt to pass only their bill within 4 days. Bharao PMs residence, etc.
Who is responsible for politicians being corrupted or whom to be blamed for this situtation. It is none other than we the people. One simple question to all those who are against corruption, whether a bribe, favour, gratitude, etc can be received without a giver. Atleast one percent of people who are supporting anna's anticorruption movement can affirm that they have not paid or received bribe (money, black tickets, to traffic constable for violating law, to peons, favour, etc). It is a known fact that during elections many people who are taking part in this movement has received money, material, liquor, etc from the politicians and voted for them. Even today if we go for elections the same thing will be repeated. Nothing comes for free, during elections if they (politicians) pay you for votes after elections they will take it back from you with interest. So for an effective society not only for corruption the change has to come from the people truely. If eveyone of us who are against corruption take a oath that we will not pay or accept bribe in any form then automatically everything will change even without Janlokpal bill. Receiver cannot exist without a giver.
There is no need for changing our democratic procedures for the sake of passing the Jan lokpal bill, for that matter there are many more issues to be addressed for the sake of common man. Today if you feel that for the sake of your bill the democratic procedures to be by passes, tomorrow somebody might feel the same way then there is no need for elections, PM, etc.
Finally many feel that if a person is wealthy it means he is corrupt is it true? Anyone can come up in life if you believe in yourself (hardwork, honesty, knowledge, integrity, character) there are many examples in our society like Ambani, film stars, paper boy setting up a supermarket, farmer with 1/2 acre land became the owner for 20 acres by his hardwork, etc.

If somebody is against the way in which it is protested it does not mean they are not true Indians
