Reservation in India – A brief history
If we will check the records in the year 1858 also British People knew how to divide and rule India, and with this policy very intelligently they kept dividing India on name of Religion and Caste and sub caste. But the tragedy of Mother India is that, when British People left they handed over the India to such people who changed nothing what was started by British and Indian leaders and politicians kept ruling India with the same rules and principals of British people. British people gave us few good things and few bad things. Those were bad things like quota system ,division on the basis of caste and religion , British people introduced that to safeguard their rule on India, but our Indian rulers also adopted same policy and ideas to create their own family rule forever in India .

While India was being granted freedom by the British, Winston Churchill had this to say about the Indian leaders who were being bestowed with powers to govern us: "Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues and free booters. Not a bottle of water or a loaf of bread will be free and the blood of their hungry millions will be on the head of Attlee. These are the men of straw of whom no trace will be found after a few years. They will fight amongst themselves and India will be lost in political squabbles". That was in 1947. Retired dacoits cosying up to their Sardar in Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai asked him, "Sardar, sardar,Rajputaun ka raaj aaaya, Brahmanaun ka raaj aaya...hum dakuaun ka raaj kab aayega...?" Aayega, aayega, the sagacious sardar replied. Just look around...are we any the wiser?

I think British just re-defined the preexisting system. casteism exist from the day we made our society. In Hindu society it exist from the very beginning, from the era of Ram and Lakshman, even prior to that. basically the goal of this system was to unify society based upon spiritual values and the pursuit of Dharma and Self-realization. but selfish man changed it's values. The system that was based on WORK basis, had changed into BIRTH basis. The one, born in a 'Kshatriya' family will be called 'Kshatriya' doesn't matter what he does.
because of this our lower casts have been oppressed for thousands of year. they have been put off-stream for thousand of years. their rights had been murdered for years. so after independence, the system like reservation have been implemented to promote these casts. So that they can overcome the loss, can be included in the main stream and become the active part of our society. ofcourse this system is a clear partiality with "Sawarns" but this has to be done for the sake of the justice, for the equality in society. There can be other ways to give support to these SC/ST/OBC categories, but again those options can not be implemented that, effectively (and without any kind of involvement of others), like the present system does. Like "School Examination is not the best way to judge a person's capability, But it is the best suitable option to judge one's capability. Because it is the best available option..." Just like that "Reservation is not the most proper solution to this problem But certainly it is the most appropriate available option so far..." |

Reservation is not serving the purpose. Only financially capable persons (from the reserved) are getting benefits of Reservation. After so many years of continuing reservation, now the time to rethink that who is the beneficiary?
Actually problem is that, a candidate who belongs to financially poor background has to earn money by doing some work to survive & fulfill the fundamental requirement. This early working/labors is consuming most of the time, focus & concentration which is required for study/education. While a candidate from financially capable background has focus only on study. This is main cause for higher %marks of financially capable candidate. So we should follow the following rather than reservation, 1. Education & employment should be free from reservation for all the person. 2. Financially poor people should be paid some amount to fulfill there fundamental requirements till to their education/study period (like roti, kapda, makan, chikitsa). 3. Employment should be on the basis of competition & competition eligibility should not include %marks. 4. Promotion should be on the basis of performance. There is no need to continue caste based reservation. If required reserve the financially poor persons.

anti-reservation
i agree with you Mr.Atul.......
poor people are not confined to certain castes alone......... rich and poor are part of every caste and religion....... so its not fair to give reservations to certain groups. the main motive is political. |
