Arrow Women reservation will become reality

The 33 per cent reservation for women would soon become a reality and the Parliamentary standing committee, to which a Bill on this had been referred, would accommodate all the views, comments and suggestions from various quarters.

Reservation for women in legislatures and parliament was a key part of the Common Minimum Programme of the ruling UPA at the Centre.

It is common that obstacles would arise whenever any momentous, path breaking and radical schemes and facilities were introduced. However, these would be overcome successfully.

Even when former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi introduced reservation for women in local bodies, there was criticism against it at that time. But the reservation had since enabled nearly 12 lakh women to occupy positions in civic bodies.
